My 8 Hacks To Always Look Good In A Jumpsuit

My 8 Hacks To Always Look Good In A Jumpsuit

I am a recent jumpsuit convert. I always liked how they looked and how one single piece could make a complete outfit. But I never got around to incorporating them in my wardrobe because of various reasons. That was until, my best friend gifted me one.

If you have experimented with jumpsuits, you know that even one mistake can have you go from hero to zero in a matter of minutes. Despite the fact that they’re pretty hassle-free, jumpsuits can be pretty intimidating to style. And I know because it has taken me quite a few attempts to nail the perfect jumpsuit-look (I still struggle sometimes). If not worn correctly, they can make you look sloppy or not accentuate the right parts no matter what the body shape.

After a few trials and errors, I have found what looks good on me, and I am here to share my tips with you guys. If you struggle or have struggled with finding the right jumpsuit, read on.

1. Length is important

This is perhaps the most important when it comes to choosing jumpsuits. There are three major lengths available – long, calf-length and shorts – and choosing one depends on your height and frame. If you’re a petite woman for example, a full-length jumpsuit might swallow you whole, so a shorter-length works better. I’m a 5’4″ woman and personally do prefer shorter-jumpsuits for the most part. There can be the occasional long one if I do find the right fit.

2. Find the right fit

There are some women who can rock just about any piece of clothing. I don’t consider myself one of them, so I look for great fitting clothes whenever I am shopping. There is sadly no one definition of what fit will look good on a person. So I just use the trial and error method till I find something that accentuates all the right parts and makes my outfit look seamless. The one I am wearing here has a cinched in waist and wide short bottoms. It basically makes me look all proportional.

3. Choose your fabric carefully

Material is another very important consideration. Now I am not saying that you choose silk, chiffon or suede if you don’t have the budget for it, but make sure that even if you choose imitation fabric (polyester, PU, rayon, etc.) you wear and see how it looks on your body. You don’t want the material to be too flimsy or too stiff or else it can get uncomfortable. Similarly, if you’re choosing a jumpsuit for a formal occasion you will want a fabric that retains shape and doesn’t crease too often and so on.

4. Pick the right accessories

Accessories can literally make or break an outfit. Often with jumpsuits, I have found that one statement accessory works best. Whether it is a pair of statement earrings, or a sleek necklace or even just a clutch, pick and choose and keep them minimal. Going overboard has never really worked for me. And from what I have seen in the fashion industry as well, most stylish looks are the ones with minimal pairing.

5. Pairing footwear can be tricky

Choosing the right footwear with your jumpsuits is also a non-negotiable choice. If you can’t decide what will go, pick a pair of minimal heels. No matter the length or fit of your jumpsuits, heels will definitely accentuate your look. I often go for very basic pairs as I don’t want to take attention away from the outfit but at the same time want it to look cohesive. This pair of single-strap heels is my go-to for both long and short jumpsuits.

6. Start with solid colours

If you’re just getting into the jumpsuit game (I make it sound like a Mission Impossible agenda) then start with opting for solid colours and then gradually move on to prints. Solid colours are so easy to style and almost always end up looking good. Once you’re more confident, you can graduate to ones with stripes and small prints and then finally to larger prints if that’s your thing.

7. Keep it structured

Another tip for when you’re starting out is to go for simple pieces that are well-structured. You don’t want to go for cutouts and frills and all the hoohaa if you’re unsure of how you’re going to style it. The one that I am wearing is just a simple stitch with full sleeves and flared shorts. It gives the outfit a lot more definition.

8. When in doubt, layer

A solid blazer or a fancy bralette can instantly up your jumpsuit game. If you can’t quite decide how to style a particular piece, add a light layer and you’ll instantly add more dimension to your outfit. I’ve actually layered my jumpsuit over a criss-cross bralette and left the front open. And that has definitely increased the glam quotient of this outfit.

Personally, when it comes to jumpsuits, I like to go for more classic and elegant pieces and then give them the look I want with different accessories.

Hopefully you found this post helpful. Let me know in the comments, how you like to style your jumpsuits. And if you want more style inspiration, you can read my other pieces here.

That’s all for today guys!
I’ll see you next time.
Cheers!
